Is ESSENTRICS® the right workout for me?
ESSENTRICS® workouts are right for just about anyone who desires more agility, range of movement, and flexibility. You will become stronger, lengthen your muscles for a leaner look, and develop more flexibility. Instructors give personalized attention to ensure each guest achieves the most efficient results through perfect posture and body alignment. They will recommend modifications for beginners or those dealing with injuries and offer variations to intensify for advanced students. ESSENTRICS® includes people of all fitness levels in each class and guests are encouraged to progress at their own pace.
How often should I do ESSENTRICS®?
You will achieve noticeable changes in your body in just a few one-hour sessions. We encourage all clients to do the ESSENTRICS® workout on a regular basis in order gain a better understanding of the movements and benefit from the most dramatic results.
How soon will I see results?
You will start to unlock your body and feel a difference with every exercise after the first session. You will feel a difference in your movement and posture after the first week, see a change after the first month, and achieve noticeable differences before next season.
Will I lose weight?
ESSENTRICS® movements strengthen your largest muscle groups (i.e., legs and buttocks) – the larger the muscle, the more calories burned. You will build lean muscle mass which burns the most calories – even while your body is at rest! As you see results, you will be motivated to make better decisions about your nutrition.
If you participate in ESSENTRICS® classes regularly and maintain a healthy lifestyle, you will notice your clothes starting to fit differently. We challenge you to let go of the fixation with the total calorie burn and the scale and redirect your energy on total fitness, being strong inside and out. Perhaps more extraordinary than shedding pounds, you will change the shape and feel of your body.
Can I still benefit from ESSENTRICS® if I’m not flexible?
Yes! With ESSENTRICS®, you will become more flexible. Flexibility is an inherent part of ESSENTRICS® training, so you will gain flexibility by doing ESSENTRICS® regularly. ESSENTRICS® flexibility training is designed to increase flexibility safely, working with the body's natural reflexes. The exercises are designed to improve flexibility and increase range of motion.
And for those people who are already very flexible, the essentric muscle strengthening creates joint stability. The goal is a balance of strength and flexibility. All exercises can be modified or adapted to suit each individual's flexibility level.The ESSENTRICS® method simultaneously strengthens and stretches your muscles and uses various techniques to safely increase your flexibility. Flexibility and range of motion are important in preventing injury and keeping your body youthful.
This looks somewhat like dance. Do I need a background in dance?
Not at all! Our clients range from those not interested in dance to people who have been dancing their entire lives. ESSENTRICS® is for everybody. We encourage and welcome people of all fitness levels and experience, regardless of age and ability.
What should I wear?
To ensure proper alignment, we suggested that guests wear somewhat form-fitting, yet comfortable, clothing for ESSENTRICS® classes. All classes are done barefoot.
Is ESSENTRICS® for women only?
Absolutely not! ESSENTRICS® has been used by numerous male athletes and dancers for both conditioning and injury prevention. Some of these athletes include: NHL Montreal Canadiens, George St. Pierre (MMA), Alexandre Despatie (Olympic diver) and Jonathan Powers (World Squash Champion). Many male sports teams are incorporating ESSENTRICS® exercises into their cross-training programs.
Is ESSENTRICS® safe during pregnancy?
Yes! ESSENTRICS® is an effective work out that is safe to continue throughout your pregnancy. At the beginning of each class, please let the instructor know that you are expecting so we can show you any modifications that may be necessary. We also offer an ESSENTRICS® DVD for moms-to-be! Will ESSENTRICS® be enough of a workout for me?
When properly performed, the exercises should be challenging, yet rejuvenating for all fitness levels. ESSENTRICS® can be done in a variety of "modes". When ESSENTRICS® is done in "healing mode" (if you are healing an injury, or just not feeling your best that day), it is designed to be easy on the body, to encourage healing. But ESSENTRICS® is only "easy" if you aren't doing the exercises properly.
ESSENTRICS® is more about the techniques (rotation within a joint), rather than the exercises (leg circles). If you are going through the motions without applying the techniques, it may feel easy — but you are not really doing ESSENTRICS®. Because the exercises engage all muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments, you need to understand how to do them properly to get the most benefit. That's why it's great to take private lessons with a qualified instructor who can watch and correct your form and technique as needed.
